After the bleak acoustic demos of Nebraska (1982), Springsteen achieved global fame with Born in the U.S.A. (1984), which produced seven top-ten singles. He followed this with the intimate, divorce-themed Tunnel of Love (1987).
Starting with his debut, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (1973), Springsteen was initially marketed as a "new Dylan" before finding his unique voice in the jazzy, sprawling rock of The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle .
